Happy New Year from the team at ACA and hello 2022!

It’s our first blog of the new year and the perfect time to look ahead at the big predictions for the most popular design trends in architecture for the year ahead.

Contemporary extensions. Continuing in popularity, the use of large panels of glazing with crittal windows with extensions affords more traditional buildings a beautiful contrast when set against those more traditional features such as Cotswold stone.

Sustainability in design. Sustainable architecture continues in popularity, with designing eco-friendly buildings features highly on many people’s lists, enabling them to live sustainably and make the best use of resources include light, heating and water as well as the actual materials used in the design. Using natural materials where possible, especially when renovating or extending Grade II or listed buildings is increasingly popular.

Industrial style. Including exposed features such as beams and pipework, to give an unfinished look, this functional and utilitarian style is increasingly popular.

Open plan living. Opening out living spaces through the use of extensive glazing to flood them with natural light, design with wellbeing in mind will continue to prove popular.

Indoor-outdoor living. With the pandemic continuing and subsequent lockdowns, the trend for indoor/outdoor living looks set to continue. Created through extensive use of glazing, reconfiguring certain features to open out living spaces and clever landscaping design continue to be popular. This trend is driven by a desire for wellbeing and creates beautiful homes ideal for growing families.

Home offices. The trend for converting spaces for home office use looks set to continue with the current working from home directives.
