Contemporary architecture is the architecture of the present day. Within the context of a beautiful, natural environment, it often poses an interesting, ambitious challenge for architects. Over our years as Cotswold Architects, we have worked with a number of clients to create contemporary structures such as extensions to traditional Cotswold stone cottages and homes. This has resulted in visionary and unique architecture.
Past clients have linked traditional cottages to contemporary extensions via glass walkways, combined local stone and modern glass and opened up spaces in ways that stretched our own imagination.
All architectural design balances 4 dimensions, not just 3. Physical spaces, especially in contemporary architecture, alter as time passes. Whether that is the way light enters the space at different times of day, or how shadows fall as the sun is higher or lower in the sky according to the seasons, is something that is a critical element in creating beautiful functional architecture.
Introducing panoramic floor to roof glazing for traditional oak frames has been made possible because of technological advances in construction. It opens up interior spaces dramatically, almost bringing the landscape and the seasons inside.
Architects often talk about inspiring, innovative architectural designs, but what we find inspiring is your space and your ideas. Your aspirations, however ambitious they may be, are our inspiration to create unique architecture. The more ambitious the design, the closer our collaboration with you has to be. We will be absolutely honest with you if we think that something cannot or should not be done for structural, environmental or aesthetic reasons and we find a new way. Very often these challenges are solved by you, not us!
As architects we believe that if you listen to peoples’ ideas, give them time to absorb the challenge and think about things themselves, they may well kickstart the solution. Which is why our approach is highly collaborative and our costings 100% transparent right from the start.
